The Birdy from the German company Riese und Müller is a full suspension folding bike with superior road performance and some off road potential.

The Birdy City features the ultra reliable Shimano Nexus 8 hub gear system that delivers a 306% gear ratio spread between 8 gears. Hub gear systems work brilliantly with folding bikes as the shifting mechanism is internal and so protected from the inevitable knocks folders get when put into tight spaces.

With the Shimano hydraulic discs, you no longer have the hassle of keeping your V-brake pads adjusted and clean or the worry of overheating and abrading your wheel rims on long descents loaded up with panniers front and rear. One finger, reliable, all-weather braking is what you get. Shimano disc brake pads are available pretty much everywhere.

The bike comes equipped with amazingly efficient Supernova dynamo lighting  which gives you super bright front and rear light at all times

Although weighing in as the heaviest in the Birdy stable at a little under 13kg, here is a bike that delivers the unique combination of serious reliability, reasonable luggage capability, with compact, manageable portability.  A small weight gain is a price worth paying for such versatility.
